MENLO PARK, Calif. — A woman was struck and killed by Caltrain on Monday in Menlo Park, the fourth death on the Caltrain tracks this year.

The incident occurred at about 2:15 p.m. between Glenwood and Encinal avenues, according to Caltrain spokeswoman Jayme Maltbie, who said the woman was trespassing and was struck by a northbound train. There were no known witnesses besides the train crew, according to Maltbie.

The County coroner has yet to determine whether the death was accidental or a suicide, Maltbie said. The death is the third on Caltrain tracks in less than a week. Last week, two men were killed the same day in separate incidents in Redwood City and San Francisco.

Two weeks ago, a 42-year old woman was struck and killed in a tunnel in San Francisco.

“One death is too many, and it’s a morbid thing to be faced with this kind of fatality,” says Maltbie. “We’re going to fund safety-awareness programs to strengthen the message of safety on the railroad.”
