TORONTO — Bombardier Inc.’s transportation division said on Friday it had won two orders for railroad equipment in Italy and the United States valued at C$1.13 billion ($724 million), according to a wire service.

Bombardier said it will supply the Long Island Rail Road in New York state with 352 electrical multiple-unit commuter rail cars for C$941 million, following on a 1999 contract for 326 cars.

The commuter cars will be used by both railroad agencies of the Metropolitan Transportation Authority, which is the largest commuter railroad network in North America, ferrying 500,000 passengers every weekday from Long Island to New York City.

The Canadian maker of planes, trains and recreational vehicles also received a C$188 million order from Italy’s state railway, Trenitalia, for 42 electric locomotives.

Trenitalia will use the locomotives, which will be designed and produced at Bombardier sites in Italy, Poland and Germany, primarily for freight transportation. The railroad already has 100 of these locomotives in service.

Shares of Bombardier closed at C$13.90 on the Toronto Stock Exchange on Thursday, where they have slumped from a year high of C$24.65.
