WASHINGTON — The National Transportation Safety Board will hold a public Board meeting on Tuesday, March 9, 2004 at 9:30 a.m., in its Board Room and Conference Center, 429 L’Enfant Plaza, S.W., Washington, D.C.

Two items are on the agenda and will be considered in the order presented below:

Railroad Accident Report – On January 18, 2002 a Canadian Pacific freight train derailed 31 of 112 cars near the city of Minot, North Dakota. Five tank cars carrying anhydrous ammonia ruptured, creating a poisonous vapor plume that covered the accident site and surrounding area. One resident was killed and more than 300 people were injured as a result of the vapor plume. Media Contact: Lauren Peduzzi, (202) 314-6100

Marine Accident Report — On December 30, 2002, the U.S. passenger vessel Panther sank near Everglades City, Florida. The Panther, a 31-foot wood and fiberglass boat operated by Everglades Nation Park Boat Tours, was carrying 33 passengers and a master. After the sinking, three nearby vessels rescued the master and passengers from the vessel. One passenger suffered serious injuries. There were no fatalities and damages to the Panther were estimated at $60,000. Media Contact: Terry Williams, (202) 314-6100
