MONTREAL — One Canadian lobby group says rail operators should learn from the U.S. nuclear energy industry. In a report published this week by the Frontier Centre for Public Policy, Mary-Jane Bennett suggests rail operators and their clients should pool their insurance policies to shield the public from paying for industrial accident cleanups. If they had done so, then Canadian taxpayers would not have to foot the bill for the massive cleanup in the wake of the Lac-Megantic tragedy.
