TICONDEROGA, N.Y. — Crews continued to clean up Tuesday after a train derailment spilled thousands of gallons of canola oil along the shore of Lake Champlain.
The car containing the oil was part of a Canadian Pacific Railroad freight train that derailed Monday just outside the village of Ticonderoga.
The New York Department of Environmental Conservation and the U.S. Coast Guard are working to contain some 25,000 gallons of canola oil from harming any waterfowl or wildlife along the lake shore.
An independent company is pumping the oil off the ground and out of the water.
The detrainment disrupted Amtrak passenger service. Amtrak officials said nearly 150 passengers had to be taken by bus from Montreal to Albany.
