TORONTO — Members of the Canadian Auto Workers have overwhelmingly approved collective agreements with Canadian National Railway that will increase pay scales by 11.4 per cent over four years.

The deals covering nearly 4,000 employees in the two companies contain wage increases, retroactive to Jan. 1, 2011, and a $500 signing bonus. The increases are 2.4 per cent and 2.6 per cent at the beginning of 2011 and 2012, respectively, and three per cent on Jan. 1, 2013 and 2014.

The union says the deal also increases the health care spending account for retirees and a number of other benefit and work life improvements. The CAW represents 3,400 shopcraft, office, clerical, and mechanical workers at CN.
