FORT WORTH, Texas — AMR Corp., the parent of American Airlines, has named to its board of directors Matthew Rose, chairman and chief executive of railway company Burlington Northern Santa Fe Corp.

AMR increased the number of directors from 12 to 13, a spokeswoman said.

Rose, 45, was elected chairman of Burlington Northern in 2002 after more than a year as president and CEO.

Just a year before that, he had been named chief operating officer at the Fort Worth-based freight rail company, which he joined in 1993.

Rose is also on the boards of the Association of American Railroads, the Center for Energy & Economic Development and the Boy Scouts of America’s national executive board, according to AMR.
