LOS ANGELES — September 12, 2017, marked the ninth anniversary of the 2008 Chatsworth train crash, considered the largest commuter rail disaster in state history. The crash occurred when a Metrolink train collided head-on with a Union Pacific freight that resulted in 25 dead and 135 injured. Engineer Robert Sanchez ran a red light while sending text messages from his cell phone, a National Transportation Safety Board report concluded. He also died in the crash.
