BATON ROUGE, La. — The train derailment Sunday and its aftermath disrupted life for 250 residents in the small community of Lawtell, but it pales compared with Union Pacific’s train wreck outside of Eunice in 2000, which forced more than 3,000 people from their homes for up to a week while emergency responders fought fires and a toxic mix of chemicals.
