WILLITS, Calif. — A Christmas train makes a lifesaving emergency stop in the mountains near the town of Willits. Nature lover John Harrington was trying to live in the mountains but had become so malnourished he had to crawl through the woods to find help.

Sunday, he spotted railroad tracks, rolled down the hillside and used flashlights to signal a train carrying Santa Claus. The engineers and a nurse who happened to be on board may have saved Harrington’s life. He’s recovering at Howard Medical Hospital in Willits.
