BARRY, Ill. — Crews still are clearing the aftermath of a train derailment involving roughly 33 rail cars near the western Illinois community of Barry in Pike County.
Authorities still haven’t pinpointed what caused the Tuesday morning accident involving the 110-car Norfolk Southern train at a creek bridge.
Railroad spokesman Rudy Husband says most of the 33 affected cars were empty covered hoppers and tank cars. Six of the cars were loaded with coal, and one carried pulp board.
Husband says there were no injuries, and no hazardous materials were involved.
The train cars broke off four utility poles, leaving Barry and the surrounding area without power for about an hour.
The train was headed to Decatur from Kansas City, Missouri.
Crews have cleared the tracks.
