(The Canadian Press circulated the following on August 7.)
PRINCE GEORGE — CN Rail said a train crash and derailment in Prince George was a result of human error.
Spokeswoman Kelli Svendson said the employee involved is a manager who has experience handling trains and has worked in unionized positions.
The details of what specifically went wrong are still being investigated by the Transportation Safety Board.
Svendson said the employee will be disciplined but won’t go into details and won’t say what job the manager was doing when the derailment happened.
The two trains collided Saturday on the banks of the Fraser River.
The accident between the two trains — one carrying gasoline, the other lumber — resulted in a blaze that billowed smoke, but doesn’t appear to have caused significant environmental damage.
