MONTREAL — Canadian National Railway officials and members of the Canadian Auto Workers met with federal mediators Wednesday to discuss issues that could lead to an end of a two-week strike at the company.

Some 5,000 clerical, customer service and trainyard employees walked out Feb. 20. Union spokesman Abe Rosner said the talks were not about CN’s latest contract proposals but about working conditions and treatment of workers.

“The discipline issue is essential to getting any forward motion on any issue, and I think the government understood that,” said Rosner.

CN says the trains continue to operate, but with delays, as managers fill in for the strikers.
