BANCROFT, Mich. — About 20 cars on a CN freight train derailed Saturday afternoon, causing a propane tank alongside the rail line to explode and forcing authorities to evacuate the surrounding area.
There were no injuries reported in the Shiawassee County accident, but the explosion shook homes about a mile away, The Flint Journal reported. Authorities lifted the evacuation order later in the day.
The westbound train was carrying car haulers, hazardous materials and plastic pellets, but the hazardous material was not disturbed, said Richard S. Kos, of the Shiawassee County sheriff’s department.
