ST. ALBERT — Canadian National Railway has been fined $4,000 after pleading guilty to a charge stemming from a major forest fire in northern Alberta.

CN entered the plea yesterday in Alberta provincial court to acting without reasonable care to prevent what was known as the Chisholm fire, north of Edmonton.

The blaze destroyed several homes and scorched thousands of hectares of land in May 2001. The cause of the fire was traced to a spark from a CN train.
