MILFORD, Nova Scotia — A freight train derailed near this central Nova Scotia community Tuesday afternoon, damaging about three kilometres of track, a wire service reported.
No one was injured as the last three or four cars of the Canadian National train came off the track but remained upright, police said. The incident occurred at about 4:40 p.m.
Enfield RCMP spokesman Darryl Macdonald was unsure what the train was carrying when it derailed, but said police confirmed there were no hazardous materials on board.
“It’s early in the investigation,” said Macdonald, who added that both police and CN officials were at the scene.
