(The Canadian National Railway issued the following news release on April 7.)

MONTREAL, QUEBEC–CN, the leader in North American rail transportation, launched a new web campaign on April 7, Velocity powered by CN, to demonstrate the power and benefits of doing business with CN electronically.

More than 3,500 CN carload and intermodal customers trust CN’s on-line and computer-to-computer services every day. “CN’s electronic business solutions are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week,” said Anita Ernesaks, CN’s vice-president of eBusiness. “They’re secure, fast and easy to use. They save time and money by eliminating faxes and phone calls. They make it easier for customers to do business with us and to enjoy the benefits of CN rail transportation. And they’re free!”

Noranda – CCR, a unit of Noranda Inc., is one of the many CN customers who benefit from using CN’s eBusiness tools. The Noranda operation, featured in the new Velocity powered by CN web campaign, uses My Shipments, Car Order, Switch, Release & Order In, as well as Shipping Instructions, for the movement of copper anodes in boxcars.

“All of these tools make it faster, quicker and easier for me to do business with CN,” said Francis Jobin, shipping supervisor for Noranda – CCR. “I can see my car order being filled on line. I can go on-line and see which boxcars are waiting on nearby tracks to be loaded and unloaded. And I know my shipping instructions are accurate for the purposes of billing.”

Zim Israel Navigation Company, one of the largest container-shipping companies in the world, recognizes the advantages of having a solution tailored to its business needs.

Gordon Quinn, land operations manager for ZIM Canada, said: “I really enjoy working with CN’s Intermodal Direct – a tool the people at ZIM find extremely useful. We have access to our fleet in real time across Canada. At any given time, ZIM has in Canada up to 10,000 containers, a great proportion of which are running across the CN system. I can go into Intermodal Direct and run inventories, look at releases, what’s on hold, what’s for sale.”

“We also now use eBill extensively, which facilitates control of the accounts between ZIM and CN and replaces faxes and phone calls,” said Quinn.

Sears Canada, the country’s largest single full-line retailer of general merchandise and home-related services, is a satisfied customer of CN’s Velocity eBusiness tools. Martin Kotva, materials handling manager for Sears Canada, said: “Our team finds CN’s web site very user-friendly and informative. We use CN’s Quick Trace tool to monitor our shipments and ensure that our trailers will arrive on time. Having the right products at the right stores is critical to ensure our customers’ satisfaction.”

“Velocity powered by CN gives our customers simple yet powerful tools that allow them to improve their transportation logistics, customer service and payment process. Through their testimonials, our customers have paid us a compliment. We are pleased that CN’s Velocity eBusiness tools are recognized and appreciated by our customers”, said Ernesaks.
