PRINCE GEORGE, B.C. — CN Rail has laid off 40 employees across northern B.C. including a dozen in Prince George, company spokeswoman Kelli Svendsen confirmed Monday.
“They’re just temporary layoffs, we expect that most of them should be back in the short term and we’re working to get them jobs within the company during this period,” Svendsen said.
She said enough employees remain in place maintain service for its customers.
“It affects the employment but it’s not affecting the service,” she said.
Svendsen said a variety of factors are behind the move, not just the lull in the forestry sector.
“Frequently we assess and modify our workforce deployment,” she said.
