OTTAWA — Canadian National Railway Co. has signed a 20-year agreement to lease its 74-kilometre Cudworth subdivision northeast of Saskatoon to Wheatland Railway Inc., effective Aug. 1, according to the Globe and Mail.

Wheatland Railway was established by six north central Saskatchewan municipalities to preserve rail service to their communities. Most of the traffic on the line is farmer-loaded grain cars. Under the deal, Wheatland will maintain the line and CN will provide rail service. CN said the agreement concludes the line abandonment process under the Canada Transportation Act.
