HALIFAX, Nova Scotia — Canadian National said today its annual meeting of shareholders will be held in Halifax on April 16, 2002, at the World Trade and Convention Centre, 1800 Argyle Street. The meeting will start at 10.30 a.m. (Atlantic Time).
CN President and Chief Executive Officer Paul M. Tellier said: “Holding our annual meeting in Halifax – the first time in the city since CN’s 1995 privatization – is a natural for us. We have deep roots here and are an integral part of the region’s economy, transporting substantial volumes of freight to and from the city and the Port of Halifax.
“We’re proud that CN’s high-quality service and substantial infrastructure investments have enhanced the competitiveness of the Port of Halifax in attracting overseas container traffic destined for Central Canada and the U.S. Midwest.”
CN turned in another year of outstanding financial performance in 2001. As reported, net income was $1,040 million, or $5.23 per diluted share, compared with $937 million, or $4.67 per diluted share, for 2000. Adjusted net income last year increased 11 per cent to $978 million from $879 million for 2000, with adjusted diluted earnings per share for 2001 rising 12 per cent to $4.92. The adjusted net income and diluted earnings per share exclude a number of non-recurring items in both 2001 and 2000.
CN’s 2001 audited financial statements, as filed with securities regulators in Canada and in the United States, are available on the Company’s web site (www.cn.ca). CN plans to mail its proxy material and annual report, including audited financial statements, to its shareholders in mid-March.
