TCHULA, Miss. — A Canadian National train carrying vehicles from the Nissan plant in Canton to Memphis derailed Friday but no injuries were reported, according to railroad officials.

CN spokesman Jim Kvedaras said the derailment occurred about 7:30 a.m. near Tchula, about 160 miles north of Jackson.

Kvedaras said nine rail cars derailed but only one turned over on its side. There were 57 rail cars in all.

The locomotives were not involved, he said.

“It is blocking our main line. We do not have estimated time for restoring service at this point. Our crews are working on it,” Kvedaras said.

He said the cause of the derailment was being investigated.
