JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The American Coke and Coal Chemicals Institute (ACCCI) granted a special Service Award to CSX Transportation (CSXT) in recognition of the railroad’s leadership, innovation and continuing partnership with the coke and coal chemicals industry.
“We are pleased to accept this award,” said Vic Saunier, CSXT vice president-Coal Sales and Marketing. “ACCCI members are key business partners of this railroad, representing a steady contribution to our coal division revenues. We highly value that partnership.”
The award, presented May 10 at ACCCI’s annual meeting in Monterey, Calif., cited CSXT “as an exemplary leader and innovator in the transport of metallurgical coke and coal; as the pioneer of the Coke Express fleet which became the model for the railroad industry; as a trusted partner which strives to ensure a viable domestic coke market.”
“As a partner with the coke industry,” said ACCCI President David Saunders, “CSXT continues its unique contribution, as it has since the 1980s, when this large railroad found a way to economically transport coke. Their Coke Express fleet is of ongoing benefit to our member companies, in an era of ever-increasing market pressures on our domestic products.”
ACCCI is a national trade association representing merchant producers of metallurgical coke (both furnace and foundry coke); integrated steel companies producing furnace coke; producers and processors of chemicals derived from the distillation of coal and coal tar; and suppliers to these various producers and processors. Based in Washington, D.C., the organization provides a forum for information and promotion of its member industries.
CSXT and its 35,000 employees provide rail transportation and distribution services over a 23,000 route-mile network in 23 states, the District of Columbia and two Canadian provinces. CSXT is a business unit of CSX Corporation (NYSE: CSX), headquartered in Richmond, Va.
