COLFAX, Calif. — No one was injured today when a Union Pacific freight train derailed in downtown Colfax and forced a temporary evacuation, according to the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection. The evacuation was ordered because of initial concern that one of the five derailed cars may have carried a hazardous substance that was leaking. About 100 homes and businesses in downtown Colfax were evacuated.
