DENVER — The Colorado Department of Transportation announced the schedule of upcoming public open houses for the R2C2 (Rail Relocation for Colorado’s Communities) study. In conjunction with the BNSF Railway, the Union Pacific and the Regional Transportation District, CDOT is examining a public/private partnership to move freight rail traffic away from the Front Range corridor to the Eastern Plains of Colorado.

As part of the study’s public involvement component, R2C2 will host four open houses to allow the public an opportunity to comment on the various proposals being evaluated and to develop an understanding of the benefits, costs and issues associated with implementing the proposed project.

The open houses, to be held from 4 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. with a PowerPoint presentation at 6:00 p.m., are scheduled as follows:

May 1 CDOT Region 2 Headquarters, Basement Conference Room, 905 Erie in Pueblo

May 5 Limon Community Building, 477 D Avenue in Limon

May 6 Castle Rock Fire Department Headquarters, 300 Perry Street in Castle Rock
