GREELEY, Colo. — Six cars of a 100-car Union Pacific crude oil train derailed May 9 west of LaSalle, spilling a little more than 5,000 gallons of oil that was bound for New York. Though it was the first oil rail spill in Weld County with Niobrara crude, it joins a spate of recent oil spills in other areas across the country, in which federal officials have called for tighter rail and tank car regulations.
