ABBEVILLE, S.C. — Phillip Crawford, the 33-year-old CSX conductor killed in an on-duty accident earlier this week, was engaged to be married next year.

Crawford and BLET member J.G. Hadden, 35, were killed when their CSX train rear ended another train near Mineral Springs, N.C., on May 24.

Crawford’s family told a reporter from television station WYFF that Crawford was the father of a 3-year-old and was going to be married Sept. 8, 2012.

“He loved being with people, period. He was the type of person who didn’t meet a stranger. If he could do anything to help you, he would always do it without any questions asked,” Phillip Crawford Sr. said.
