CHICAGO — A 28-year-old Norfolk Southern rail conductor from Indiana died Tuesday after being struck by a train on the South Side Sunday night.
A train near South Maplewood and West Columbus avenues hit the rail conductor about 8 p.m. Sunday, according to Fire Media Affairs spokesman Joe Roccasalva.
The conductor was initially taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn in critical condition, Roccasalva said.
Nathan Orr, 28, was pronounced Tuesday at 3:30 p.m. at Advocate Christ Medical Center, a spokesman for the Cook County Medical Examiner’s office said.
Norfolk Southern spokesman Rudy Husband confirmed a conductor was “involved in an incident,” but had no further details Monday.
The man was in between two trains when he was struck, Roccasalva said.
It was not immediately known why the conductor was on the tracks.
An autopsy is set for Wednesday.
