HELENA, Mont. — Legislation to promote rail competition has been introduced in the U.S House.
The bill sponsored by Rep. Denny Rehberg, R-Mont., is identical to legislation recently introduced in the Senate. Rehberg said Montana agricultural producers need help with high costs from noncompetitive rail shipping rates.
Rehberg’s legislation would direct the Surface Transportation Board to ensure rail competition. It would also establish a final offer arbitration of disputes between shippers and railroad companies.
