TORONTO — Ontario’s coroner is changing the way deadly train crashes involving cars or pedestrians are handled.
Deputy chief coroner Jim Cairns said the sites will no longer be automatically treated as crime scenes.
Via Rail and GO Transit commuter trains have suffered long delays because of police investigations when people were struck and killed, even though cameras mounted on the trains didn’t show any criminal activity, Dr. Cairns said.
In the future, he said, authorities will look at cameras mounted on the trains as soon as they arrive on the scene.
