NORFOLK, Va. — Norfolk Southern Corp. saw its third-quarter profit grow 2 percent compared to a year ago as it cut expenses, including workers and overtime. The railroad’s operating revenue dropped 7 percent to $2.5 billion compared to the third quarter of 2015, while costs – fuel, labor and rent – were cut by 10 percent.
