(The Associated Press circulated the following report on April 3.)
HOLLIDAYSBURG, Pa. — The Altoona-Blair County Development Corp. received $610,000 in federal grants to market the former Hollidaysburg Car Shops and improve an industrial park.
A $100,000 grant from the U.S. Economic Development Administration will pay for a regional study on job creation potential, including the possible sale or reuse of the car shops.
The railroad freight car operation employed 320 workers at one time but was closed in July by Norfolk Southern Corp.
The rest of the funding will pay for basic development improvements to the Ardie J. Dillen II Business Park near Interstate 99.
