MANITOWOC, Wisc. — Manitowoc’s Robert Buchholz and Denise Bennett aren?t getting married in the normal fashion. They are set to be wed today — on a moving train at the National Railroad Museum in Ashwaubenon. The event will take place after the museum closes for the day.

“It?s a romantic symbol of the journey we?re about to begin,” Bennett said Thursday. “From a more romantic time.”

The decision was in part prompted by the couple?s shared interest in trains.

“I had some model trains when I was growing up, and I have a general love of trains,” said Buchholz, and the same is true of Bennett.

Also, the two took a trip to a lodge in Montana?s Glacier National Park. The lodge had been the winter home of railroad employees at one point, and memories from the trip prompted the couple to continue the train theme.

Buchholz and Bennett met at the Culture Cafi coffee shop in Manitowoc, and this too will be represented in their wedding. “We?re going to have a coffee toast instead of a champagne toast,” said Bennett.

For a honeymoon, the couple is taking an Amtrak California Zephyr train to Colorado.
