Canadian Pacific Railway avoided strike action by reaching a tentative deal with the Canadian Auto Workers Union after months of negotiations.

Both sides reached a deal just before midnight Friday (February 4) that is expected to be ratified by the union in about three weeks. They had been negotiating for several months leading up to Friday’s agreement.

The latest round of bargaining started on Jan. 27 and carried through until a deal was reached with the aid of a conciliator, Canadian Pacific spokesman Mark Seland said Saturday.
