CRANBROOK, B.C. — A CP Rail train carrying coal derailed yesterday in southeastern B.C.

Railway spokesman Ed Greenburg said the 115-car train was carrying coal to Golden when 21 railcars slipped off the tracks near Briscoe. Greenburg said the derailment happened at about 4:30 a.m.

“It’s too early to be able to speculate what may have caused this incident,” said Greenburg.

Greenburg said it’s not clear how much coal spilled in the derailment, but crews on the scene confirmed that no waterways were affected and there were no injuries.
