VANCOUVER — Canadian Pacific Railway Ltd. said the British Columbia government may have leaked information to a rival during bidding for B.C. Rail Ltd., the Vancouver Sun reported, citing a letter Canadian Pacific wrote to Premier Gordon Campbell.

The Calgary-based railway said it was concerned that the government’s sale of B.C. Rail was “extremely prejudiced” and would lead to higher shipping rates in the province, the newspaper said. The government agreed to sell B.C. Rail to Canadian National Railway Co. for C$1 billion ($740 million) in November.

Canadian Pacific’s concerns about the sale are emerging at the same time police are investigating whether two senior provincial government officials traded confidential information about B.C. Rail in exchange for benefits or future employment.

On Dec. 28, the police raided the British Columbia legislative offices of David Basi, a former assistant to the minister of finance, and Bob Virk, a former assistant to the transport minister, the newspaper reported.
