MONTREAL — Canadian Pacific Railway said it plans to sell a low-density railway spur line in northern New Brunswick, in accordance with discontinuance procedures of the Canada Transportation Act, according to Today’s Trucking.
The 7.8-mile spur line, known as the Edmundston Spur, connects Grand Falls and Cyr Junction, near St. Leonard, NB. Prospective bidders must make their interests known to the railway in writing by Aug. 6.
CPR must meet certain conditions before it can discontinue service on a line. First, it must offer the line for sale to the private sector. If there is no interest, the railway must then offer the line to the federal (under certain circumstances), provincial and municipal governments.
