RED WING, Minn. — The Canadian Pacific Railway reopened its main line through downtown Red Wing on Monday following a weekend derailment.

Repairs to 1,500 feet of damaged track were completed and the line reopened at 10:20 a.m. railway spokeswoman Laura Baenen said.

Twenty-nine train cars derailed along the Mississippi River about 6:30 a.m. Saturday. The accident also derailed five empty cars on a side track.

At least 13 of the derailed cars are too badly damaged to be put on the track again and will have to be cut up and hauled away for scrap, Baenen said. That will take a few weeks, she said.

No injuries were reported. The cause of the accident remained under investigation by Canadian Pacific authorities and the Federal Railroad Administration.
