(Atlanta television station WXIA posted the following story on its website on July 13.)
ATLANTA — Crews cleaned up a mess from a rail car of a CSX train that jumped the tracks in Dekalb County and came precariously close to hitting a home.
The accident occurred near the intersection of Ponce de Leon and Decatur Street.
The homeowner, Jerry Swain, wasn’t there at the time, but says he’s grateful a tree saved his house from disaster.
Swain and his wife said they have noticed an increase in traffic on the rail line in the five years they’ve lived there.
A substance was spilled during the accident, but CSX said it is non-hazardous.
