ATLANTA — Authorities have contained a chemical leak after two trains cars derailed early Wednesday in northwest Atlanta, officials said.
The CSX rail cars jumped the tracks around 4:30 a.m. at a rail yard located in the 1900 block of Marietta Road. No injuries were reported but authorities said one car began leaking styrene, a chemical used to manufacture products such as plastics and rubber.
Authorities cordoned off a 1,000-foot area around the rail cars as a precaution but said there was no immediate danger to nearby homes.
A CSX worker said employees at the facility were ordered out while crews worked at the scene.
The cause of the derailment was under investigation.
