CHICAGO — U.S. railroad CSX Corp expects freight volumes to be flat or down a bit in 2007 due to softness in some parts of the U.S. economy, the company’s top executive said on Thursday.

“Volumes should be flat to slightly down for the year,” Chief Executive Officer Michael Ward said in a telephone interview.

He said that despite lower rail freight volumes so far this year, CSX will stick to its strong pricing policy, adding that the railroad is willing to sacrifice some volume in pursuit of that policy
