JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Railroad operator CSX Corp. said Friday its affiliate Evansville Western Railway Inc. closed the purchase of 318 acres of land from the city of Winter Haven, Fla., to be used for an intermodal and automotive terminal.
The terminal will be used for rail traffic and commuter rail operations. CSX did not reveal the cost of the purchase.
A regional impact study will be conducted to evaluate the effects of the terminal on the region, CSX said. CSX will work with the state and Polk County in an effort to address any concerns identified.
CSX shares rose 29 cents to $42.96 in afternoon trading.
