AVON, Ind. — Two empty bulk train cars lost their axles Tuesday, causing a derailment that blocked a busy road during afternoon rush hour.
There were no injuries or spills, said Avon Fire Chief Dan Smith.
The accident occurred at 3:45 p.m. just south of the Ind. 267-U.S. 36 intersection, about a mile west of the CSX Avon Big Four rail yard. The train blocked Ind. 267, and area police agencies diverted vehicles to other north-south roads.
