NASHVILLE — A train carrying hazardous materials derailed near Gibson yesterday, forcing the evacuation of about 10 homes.
No one was injured when the CSX freight train traveling from Memphis to Bruceton left the tracks, The Jackson Sun reported.
Police said all three engines and 13 of the train’s 20 cars derailed. The car carrying carbon disulfide, a poisonous and flammable liquid chemical, was not harmed, and the hazardous material did not spill.
Officials said they were investigating and didn’t know what had caused the accident.
HazMat teams worked to clean up the site though yesterday afternoon, and CSX officials hoped trains would be back on the tracks by today.
