BETHLEHEM — CSX crews are working to get the company’s Selkirk rail yard facility functioning after a derailment early today sent 5 cars off the tracks and resulted in about 1,000 gallons of diesel fuel being spilled on the ground.

CSX spokesman Bob Sullivan said the incident took place at about 5 a.m. today and involved two locomotives and three freight cars. Sullivan said there were no injuries and no hazardous materials other than the fuel were released.

He said the cause of the incident is under investigation.

Sullivan said CSX crews were at the scene cleaning up the fuel and getting the derailed cars back on the tracks. He said the company also was in contact with local and state environmental officials. Sullivan said CSX expected to have that part of the facility cleared up and operational sometime later today.

”The overall impact on our freight operations is minimal,” he said.
