FRANKFORT CENTER, N.Y. — A CSX train engine caught fire near Dyke Road Monday evening.

The Frankfort Center Fire Department was called to the scene about a mile east of Dyke Road around 6:30p.m.

The 142 car freight train was heading east to Albany when an engine cylinder blew. Oil flew everywhere, catching on fire. A fire suppression unit put the fire out on the train quickly. The fire was completely out by the time firefighters arrived.

Four cars did contain hazardous materials. Fortunately, they were 16 cars back from the engine and were not affected.

The incident took place behind the Utica Post Office. According to Frankfort Center Assistant Fire Chief Larry Ventura, postal workers say they saw large flames.

Another train is being sent to hook up and pull the original train and cars the remainder of the way to Albany.
