TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — Jacksonville’s CSX Transportation Inc. will dodge a state requirement over anti-trespassing signs on its railroad tracks under a bill pushed through the Legislature by Sen. Jim King on Friday.
The bill, also approved by the House, frees CSX from a state requirement to post “no trespassing” signs every 500 feet along its tracks before trespassers can be prosecuted. King, R-Jacksonville, said the railroad plans to keep existing signs in place but wants to be free of the requirement in the future.
Some Democratic legislators opposed the move, saying that the signs help correct a common misperception that railroads are public land.
