SMITHSBURG, Md. ― An emergency services official in Smithsburg says a CSX freight train has derailed in the middle of the western Maryland town.
Smithsburg Emergency Medical Services Deputy Chief James Ulrich says no injuries or hazardous materials have been reported.
He tells The Frederick News-Post that two empty boxcars and a tanker derailed about 2:30 p.m. Tuesday.
Ulrich says the line is closed and CSX officials are on the scene.
