RUSSELL, Ky. — CSX laid off 37 workers at two facilities in the region Tuesday.
Thirty-five workers from Russell, Kentucky and two from the Huntington office have been let go. Company spokesman Bob Sullivan says this is a result of the slumping economy.
Sullivan says the workers are from the mechanical side. They are train drivers or equipment operators.
Sullivan says CSX hopes to bring the workers back, but it depends on the future of the economy.
Last week, CSX furloughed eleven workers at its Russell facility as part of a 1600 worker furlough across the country.
