MADEIRA, Ohio — Firefighters from two departments spent much of Wednesday battling a stubborn blaze after a load of lumber on a CSX train caught fire, the Cincinnati Enquirer reported.

There were no injuries and no damage estimate was determined, fire officials said. No hazardous chemicals on the train were involved.

The cause of the blaze is under investigation and is considered suspicious, fire officials said.

The train was traveling through Madeira shortly after 10 a.m. Wednesday when train operators noticed the lumber was burning.

The train stopped near a railroad crossing at Shawnee Run and Camargo roads.

“They saw it and stopped,” Madeira & Indian Hill Fire Chief Steve Ashbrock said. “They separated the train so it was not a hazard.”

The burning lumber was on the first car behind a string of four CSX locomotives. Firefighters spent about four hours knocking down the blaze.

The train was then moved to Lake Isabella in Loveland, where firefighters took the load of lumber apart to put out hot spots, the chief said.
