JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Jeffrey Niels Thordahl has been named CSX resident vice president-state relations for South Carolina, announced Arnie Havens, senior vice president-government affairs.

Thordahl succeeds Daniel S. Green, who recently was named president of South Carolina Public Railways.

In his new position, Thordahl will be responsible for legislative and government activities on behalf of CSX in South Carolina. He will be based in Columbia and report to Michael J. Ruehling, vice president-state relations.

Thordahl has extensive experience in regulatory issues, public affairs and government relations. Before joining CSX, he was the state relations representative for SCANA Corporation, a gas and electric utility company headquartered in Columbia, S.C. Thordahl also served as legal counsel and executive assistant for legislative affairs to former South Carolina Gov. Carroll A. Campbell Jr.

Thordahl is a 1989 graduate of the University of South Carolina School of Law, and a 1986 graduate of Wake Forest University.

“There are a number of challenging issues facing us in South Carolina,” Havens said. “We’re very pleased to have someone of Jeff’s energy and expertise join our team.”

“Jeff brings considerable talent and experience to the job,” Ruehling said. “His prior work in government relations and knowledge of the state will serve him well in representing CSX’s interests in South Carolina.”

CSX Corporation, based in Richmond, Va., operates the largest rail network in the eastern half of the United States. It also provides intermodal, domestic container-shipping and global container terminal operations.
